Rockfield, Kangaroo Point

As part of the Home Estate, Rockfield now functions as the guest residence and continues to be an integral chapter in the ongoing Home project. This five-bedroom prestige home — originally built in 1892 for coal merchant Captain Daniel MacGregor — is a rare and substantial example of late 19th-century Queensland Filigree architecture, complete with wide verandahs and decorative timber fretwork that speak to its storied past.

Sophie Hart Studio has been working closely with the clients to reimagine the interiors, helping shape a direction that feels more aligned with their personal aesthetic — an Arts and Crafts–inflected London townhouse or classic New York brownstone sensibility, rather than the previous Hamptons-inspired approach. The intention is to create spaces that feel grounded, textured and richly layered, while remaining deeply respectful of Rockfield’s heritage character. The result is a home that merges historic elegance with a warm, collected and timeless interior language.
